Q. How do you feel being the GATE 2015 AIR 1 topper for ECE?
A. It feels great. I can’t express it in words.

Q.First of all Jaya, tell us about yourself-Where are you from, your family background etc etc?

A.I am from Raipur, Chhattisgarh. My father is a lecturer of Mathematics and my mother of Hindi, both here in Raipur.

Q Tell us about your educational background.

A. Branch- Electronics and Telecommunication 2011-2015 batch of National Institute of Technology,Raipur.

Q.So here tell us about your GATE preparations.

A.After my 4th  semester (2nd year), in the summer holidays before 5th semester. i think i started very early as i said. So i went slowly but steadily. As a topic was taught to me, I used to read it from the standard books focussing on getting my concepts very clear. My complete syllabus was covered by November 2014 and the only thing left thereafter was practice  more and more questions and revising the concepts. Practice is the key to score well in the GATE Examination.

Q. Was the coaching helpful? What is your advice   to future GATE aspirants.

A.I had joined Logic Gate Studies, Raipur for the classroom course. I also enrolled for the online test series of Ace Academy and Made Easy.  According to me it was really helpful.
it totally depends on self study ;but some guidance is required at the beginning,in which the institute played a vital role. Also to clear your doubts you need them.

Q How did  you managa your college study & Gate preparations?

A. I had to manage both my college studies and Gate preparation simultaneously. But most of the college subjects was same in gate preparations.

Q What was the your study plan?

A. I started it very early as I said before(after my second year). So, I went slowly but steadily. As a topic was taught to me, I used to read it from the standard books focussing on getting my concepts very clear.

Q. What is the difference between your UG exams and GATE 2015?
A. GATE is a competitive examination. So it differs from the UG exams. Here, you need to focus more on the basic concepts and problem solving.

Q. When did you decide to take GATE? And why GATE?
A.. I had it at the back of my mind from the very beginning of my B.Tech. course. But, I decided to take it as a serious career option just after the second year. I am very much interested in the field of electronics and therefore want to gain as much knowledge in this branch of study as possible. Therefore, I decided to go for higher studies and hence chose GATE.

Q.Do you think the current teaching in our NIT’S is up to par with the industry’s requirements?Or indeed, enough for competitive exams like GATE,IES etc?

A. The syllabus is according to the GATE syllabus, but there is a shortage of faculty or i can say NITs’ lack quality teachers.
That was the reason i needed coaching and that’s the reason i want to be a professor because if you are not doing anything to solve the problem then you are also a part of the problem,i beleive.

Q.So Jaya, what is your advice to future GATE aspirants?Wen should they start preparing and how?

A.They should start it early as the syllabus is a wide one and we have to manage between our college and the preparation. They should firstly go through the standard books to make their concepts clear and then practice questions-previous years gate papers, and many practice books are available. The last stage is the test series.

Q.if you don’t mind, can you tell us your CPI or pointer?

A.It is 8.83 till the 7th sem.Its like “Kabhi kabhi kuch jeetne ke liye kuch harna padta hai aur har kar jeetne wale ko bazigar kehte hain”!!..Just kidding,8.83 is not that bad.

Q.So was it tough balancing semester exams with GATE preparation? Are the two radically different?

A.There are many subjects in common and the rest are related to the basic subjects like every subject needs a knowledge of signals n systems, digital electronics, communication, etc.
So if your concepts are clear,it will help you in the semester exams as well.

Q.,finally,what are your future plans?

A.I will be pursuing post graduation in Microelectronics branch of study from IIT Bombay.
